Denver is a western North Carolina community located in Lincoln County. It is situated off North Carolina State Highway 16 and is positioned west of Lake Norman. According to the United States Census Bureau, there were 2,369 people living in Denver in 2000.

Denver is located in an area that was originally inhabited by Native American Indians of the Catawba tribe. The first European settlers to arrive in the area were Adam Sherrill and his family. Sherrills Ford, located north of Denver, is named in honor Adam Sherrill. With his family, Adam Sherrill arrived in the area in 1747. In 1770, the area where Denver is located began to be occupied by other settlers. The community was known as Dry Pond until 1873 when Matt Thompson, a local school principal, renamed the community.

Today, Denver is a beautiful community positioned on the western shores of Lake Norman. The lake was formed in 1962 when construction of the Cowans Ford Dam across the Catawba River was completed. Residents of Denver are provided easy access to Charlotte, North Carolina due to the position of the community along North Carolina State Highway 16. Charlotte is home to NBA and NFL teams and many recreational opportunities. Theaters, cultural centers, and large corporations are located in Charlotte. In Denver, there are churches, businesses, and Rock Springs Elementary School. Individuals who choose to live in Denver are provided an excellent quality of life and easy access to local recreational opportunities.

Weather in Denver varies each season. It is located in a climate that requires residents to have heating and cooling systems installed in their homes. During the summer months, temperatures can climb to the low-100s when fronts of very warm air pass through the community. During the months of winter, temperatures can dip well below freezing. Because of the uncertain weather patterns, it is necessary for residents to have both heating and cooling systems installed in their homes to remain comfortable indoors.
